24 Hours From Q-Town: HOURS 7 & 8

Hi Kids!

Our old friend Jim Lynch from Wonderfunders http://www.wonderfunders.com/ dropped by to shower us with gifts.

He bought a $50 gift certificate from Kaboom Test Labs and—

Eloy won!

Then Jim left to go get some more prizes. He returned with 5, count `em 5, $10 gift certificates to URBAN Hot Dog, right next door to Kaboom Test Labs. How convenient!

We did a rapid fire drawing and here are the results:

Carsten, Sarah, Nathan, Aliina, and Ben!

Then, Jim left yet again and returned with 3 $20 bills, which were promptly won by Austin, Stephen, and Jesse!

And then, more stuff happened, but more of that next hour.

Be Well,

Your pal,

Chuck

24 Hours From Q-Town: HOURS 5 & 6

Hi Kids!

Here’s Ben showing Andy how easy it is to ink with the cintiq and Adobe Photoshop. If I were an artist (which I am, by no stretch of the imagination), and I had a coupla thousand bucks, I would definitely get one!

100_5788

We had another raffle and afterward, I realized that we have not been posting pictures of the winners like we did in the past, so here they are. After all, that’s all part of the drama and pathos that IS 24 Hour Comic Day:

Here’s Garrad with his copy of “The Salmonella Chronicles”.

Sarah and Julie both won gift certificates from Big Adventure Comics https://www.facebook.com/bigadventurecomics in Santa Fe.

100_5801 100_5802

Tristan won a Lobo Anime and Comics gift certificate.

100_5803

Made another trip around the floor and here’s how things are going…

That’s it for now kids.

Be well,

Your pal,

24 Hours From Q-Town: HOUR 4

Hi Kids!

Sometime during Hour 3,  Andy Kuhn, world famous artist (Google him) dropped by. He’s been a friend and supporter of 7000 BC longer than I have. He checked out Ben Girven’s cintiq drawing tablet. Andy’s always been a pen, ink, and paper kind of guy, but he seems to be very interested. Ben told me that he increased his productivity tremendously since he invested in the cintiq, and I’ve heard that from other artists, too.

100_5774 100_5777

Jeff (that’s Jeff behind Andy) just told me that we have 26 people creating comics. Good turnout!

And now…

PROGRESS!

24 Hours From Q-Town: HOURS 2 and 3

Hi Kids!

We’re coming to you from Kaboom Test Labs West.

We have many more folks to thank, like f’rinstance:

Trader Joe’s in Uptown, Albuquerque, who just let us run through the store and pick what we wanted.

http://www.traderjoes.com/stores/index.asp?q=87110

Winning Coffee, who provided a veritable vat of coffee, and another vat of hot water and all the fixin’s, on the fly, Jeff said,  since we gave them the wrong date. They graciously supported our needs anyway. Winning has been a long time friend of 7000 BC, sometimes letting us hold our monthly meetings there.

Lobo Anime and Comics, my personal Local Comic Shop for the last 8 years. Henry donated 10 ea. $10 gift certificates for us to award as raffle prizes, and he didn’t even ask me to sign for them. You can also pick up our 7000 BC member’s comics at the shop, too.

Twin Suns Comic Books & Gaming Center, who gave us a $20 gift certificate wrapped around a Monster energy drink (that will come in handy for the lucky winner). Thanks to Josh and Drew Allred, the aforementioned twin sons and owners.

We also have a satellite contingent of comic artists, Mike, Nathan, and Jeff, who are at an undisclosed location but are sending me pictures of their progress. Here they are, from left to right, Mike, Nathan, and Jeff:

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our sponsors:

Kaboom Test Labs, who gave us a place to sweat (to quote Deep Purple in “Smoke on the Water”…) check them out here!

Jason’s Deli, who provided us with delicious sandwiches, chips, and pickles to fuel our quest.

There are more, but I just realized that we are an hour in and I haven’t posted yet!

Back soon with hour 2…

Be Well,

Your pal,

Join us in Vermont for our 7th year!

We have returned to our roots: Artists’ Mediums at 300 Cornerstone Drive, in the more “pastoral” part of Williston, VT.  And there’s still room for a few more artists!  Artists of all abilities welcome, visit our info page for more details.  Call (802) 879-1236 or (800) 255-1290 to sign up.

24 Hour Comics Day also overlaps with Vermont’s Fall Open Studio tour, which the four of us employees at Artists’ Mediums are also participating in.  Therefore, a weekend full of art, art, art.

We’ll be open for 31 hours, from 10 a.m. Saturday the 5th through 5 p.m. Sunday the 6th.

There’s a raffle for participants, as well as tasty snacks provided by local shops. Plus, we’re having a nice BIG stock-up supply sale at the store all weekend long.
