We have our first completed comic! Sara has completed her Pokedex Shenanigans, a randomly selected (using 10 sided die!) illustrated Pokedex!
We’ve been cruising through here in Burque. We’ve had about 25 participants total, and we’re down to 10 still wrangling the pen and brush. There has been much drawn, and there is much still to draw. Here’s some of what’s happened.
Gabe won The Amazing Spiderman #666 courtesy of Astro-Zombies, with an Astro-Zombies exclusive cover! So far he has not developed any hives or had his head spin around. We’ll keep you posted.
Zac won Avengers Undercover, written by Hopeless. This was not a good round for raffle prizes.
Winter won a copy of the first volume of 7000 BC’s Jams.
Julie won a Wonder Woman 24 Hour Comics Day blank to fill in next year.
Paul won the Supes blank book.
Here’s a page from my still unnamed comic, inspired by an email this afternoon.
Antonio is out after a handful of very productive hours. His comic is rather transcendental.
Matt is out too, having finished a few pages of his ongoing Duckville, and winning a Munny donated by Nathan.
Nathan won THE coolest prize – a Batman The Animated Series Crime Squad Triple Attack Jet, courtesy of Age of Comics.
Speaking of Nathan, here’s a few more of his pages.
Here’s some of Sara and Winter’s work.
Paul’s doing some serious drafting on his homemade portable light table.
Emily has transitioned from her fantastic post it thumbnails to the fantastic final pages.
Kyle is zipping through his pencils.
Charles is filling in the art between the lettering.
And from home, Mike has some fascinating characters.
As does his daughter Olive.
As for myself, Dave Grohl is quite mysterious.
See you in a few hours!
Thank you to all our sponsors!
We the organizers are 7000 BC, but we certainly don’t put this together without a whole lot of help. First there’s Henry, Eric, and the gang at Lobo Comics, who gives us the walls and roof. And second there’s Chris and the gang at Winning Coffee, who provides us with the fuel to do this. Without these two, we’d be struggling.
But we also have a huge amount of other help. Thanks go to Laurie and everyone at TEDxABQ for providing most of the non-coffee drinks, snacks, and food.
We got raffle prizes from Astro-Zombies, Age of Comics, Comic Warehouse, SRB Studios, Oops… I Just Arted, and Wonder Funders. That’s Natalie Peavy’s artwork on the flier, and we’ve had assistance making it all happen from Kristen Loree, Eli Bartlit, Laura Metzler, and Shana Morris. Next weekend Shana will be lecturing on the history of the Ernie Pyle Library, Albuquerque’s first branch library. Nathan Rackley, Paul Ziomek, and I are running the event. Paul is also buying all of us dinner!
And last but not least, we have to thank Marco, Todd, and everyone at ComicsPro, who puts together 24 Hour Comics Day internationally every year.
Thank you all!
More folks have joined us, and we’ve had a couple more raffles. We’ve moved from Ravi Shankar to Explosions in the Sky. Here’s a few pics of things being worked on, from Nathan’s new Minions
and Sara’s Pokedex Shenanigans
and Raphael’s fine lines
and Vincent’s alternate take on Star Wars
and Kyle’s careful planning
and Emily with the post it note thumbnails!
There’s also Gabe’s pugtastic return
Charles’s lettered pages of Norse mythology
Soto’s 8 Ball
and Winter’s working on anatomy
and here’s a little from me.
We’re nearly two hours into this year’s event. We got a slow start, but we’re grooving now. Got the jams playing (Charles is DJing this hour) and folks are focused and working. We have eleven creators present, seven more working from home for various reasons, and others who have checked in to say they’re arriving later.
A big thank you to Lobo Anime and Comics for hosting us. They have a new space connected to the shop with plenty of room for events like this.
Here’s the current gang, plus me.
We also had our first raffles, a pair of hands. Pastor Mike, who is working from home with two of his kids, won the left hand. (Ursula K. LeGuin may have something to say about that.)
And Rafael won the right hand. He also had a visit from RJ for moral support.
Next time, more sponsor thank you and a peek at what folks are drawing.
Hello from 7000 BC and Lobo Comics in Albuquerque, New Mexico!
Less than two hours until we start. We’ll be running noon to noon as is our way here. I’m Jeff, one of 7000 BC’s organizers for this 15th annual event. We’re a non-profit with a focus on comics, which you can check out at http://www.7000bc.org. Lobo is our host location this year at 1016 Juan Tabo NE,
This year’s poster features artwork from Natalie Peavy, plus a cop from some classic artwork by Harvey Kurtzman and the recently departed Marie Severin. See you all soon!
