A printing company in the UK is running a competition for comic book creators. This isn’t a 24-Hour Comics Day event, but we though 24HCD participants might be interested in the details:
——-
Print Express love designers, artists and everyone creative – and we’re running a competition for up and coming comic book artists to help showcase their work. If you send us your comic we’ll pick a winner from our favourite entries and produce a small number of professionally printed comic books – enough for you and some friends, or for your portfolio.
To enter, email your comic as a PDF to comics@printexpress.co.uk. As ever, there are some rules – which you can find in detail here.
Print Express are a UK printing company who specialise in high quality print & delivery.

Note from Amanda: we aren’t affiliated with this contest, so please contact Print Express with any questions.
(24-Hour Comics Day doesn’t have an official contest for participants, but individual hosts may set up their own. Completed 24-Hour Comics Day books can be included in the national archive, though! We’ll post more details for that as we approach the event date, October 20th.)
For those that are interested in hosting the 24-Hour Comics Day event on Saturday October 20th, 2012 as an official host location: Hosting this event is completely free.
Earlier this year, there was some confusion regarding an email asking hosts to “renew their membership” with a form of payment. However, that was an error made by the web host’s auto emailer.
We are not, and will not, charge for official participation in 24-Hour Comics Day!
We appreciate all of the event hosts who make 24HCD such a successful and fun event for cartoonists around the world!
How Do I Register?
If you haven’t already signed up to host an event, please visit www.24hourcomicsday.com/hosts and get registered today.
When registering, make sure you choose “Host Site for 24HCD event” as your registration type.
The “Event Locator” page is up and you can see how your listing looks. By logging in with your own username and password, you are able to edit your listing, add details, or make any last minute changes yourself. (If you are renewing, don’t forget to update the date and time from last year’s listing!)
Advertise Your Event!
We’re still inviting participants to add flyers, images and videos to the main 24HCD blog. If you aren’t already an author on the blog, please contact us after you’ve registered as a host site and we’ll add you!
We’re excited to help you make this event fun and memorable! If you have any further questions, please contact us at 24hcd @ comicspro.org
This year’s 24-Hour Comics Day is October 20th!
You can register now to be an official host venue or take the challenge as an online participant (for those who are not attending a host venue) and upload your 24 pages online during the 24 hour event.
The Event Locator is live too. Host venues will be able to login to the site and update their event listings.
As we get closer to October 20th, more content will be available for official hosts and resources for participants.
If you have any question or problems with registration, please contact us at 24hcd @ comicspro.org
Do you participate in 24-Hour Comics Day in October? Another great cartooning event is “Mini Comics Day” which will be held on May 26th this year.
Details are available here.
From the minicomics.org site:
May 26th, 2012 is the date for the second annual Mini-Comics Day, celebrating the art of cartooning and creating hand-made comic books (the first event was held April 9th, 2011).
On Mini-Comics Day, participating cartoonists from around the world will write, draw, and print copies of a mini-comic, completing the entire process from start to finish in a day or less. Anyone in the world can participate.
Good luck with your mini comic!
24HCD Update: host venues can start to register for the 24HCD 2012 event in June!
We posted a note about it in early February, but the web host for 24HCD sent an email by mistake to hundreds of our event hosts and participants.
The email asked hosts to “renew their membership” and asked them for a form of payment.
This email was an error and all hosts and participants should disregard.
We are not, and will not, charge for official participation in 24-Hour Comics Day!
24HCD administration is completely run on volunteer power, and it has taken our volunteers weeks to respond to the worried emails we’ve received from hosts.
We apologize for issues that this spam may have caused–you’ll never receive a valid email from us asking for money for hosting this event.
We appreciate all of the event hosts who make 24HCD such a successful and fun event for cartoonists around the world!
The date for the 2012 24-Hour Comics Day event is October 20th!
We’ll be updating the website with the new date information soon. Registration for the 2012 event will begin in June.
(Because we’ve held the date at the beginning of October for the last couple of years, the assumption has started that it would always be the first Saturday in October. But 24HCD has moved its date several times and used to be held in the spring each year!)
The ComicsPRO board is interested in keeping 24HCD as a 4th quarter event, but to this date we haven’t pinned it to a particular weekend.
We have received a lot of feedback from hosts and participants who would like the event to be held later in October because of schedules at schools, libraries, conflicting comic book conventions and religious holidays.
So, for 2012, we’ve set the 24HCD date for October 20th.
(We’ll be asking event hosts for their feedback on the date change after the event and that will determine the event date for 2013.)
See you in the fall!
NEWS UPDATE: If you hosted a 24-Hour Comics Day event in 2011, the website may have contacted you saying your “membership” was “expired.” Please disregard this notice–sign up for the 2012 event will begin in June 2012.
The ComicsPRO Board of Directors will be announcing the date of the 2012 24-Hour Comics Day event next week at the 2012 ComcisPRO Annual Membership Meeting in Dallas, Texas!
Stay tuned!
