New Orleans Update… 13 Hours @ The Joan Mitchell Center

Kelly Stiles: Hey this is also my first time doing the 24 hour comic.  I’m having a lot of fun, and its forcing me to make quick decisions about inking (which I never do) with great results. Gotta get back to it. Good luck everybody!

Kira Mardikes:  Hello, I’m working on a comic about apartment demons in Chicago.  It’s been a slow start, I think I have three comics going on simultaneously today, one more realistic (the Chicago one), one fantastical about winged gods finding a lone traveling man in the swamp, and the third is a massacre comic in a cartoony style. You can read some of my finished work at secretcomix.com. Great work, having fun 🙂

John Slade: This is my third 24 Hour Comics Day event. I’m currently working on the Fifth issue of my comic title, “Afro Brother Spacemen” a satirical comic about three Black astronauts who protect the USA and the world from the absurd. I’m also one of the hosts of this years event. The artists are all having a splendid time. We’ve got cartoons and old serials going in the background to get our creativity levels high. Got to get back to work in New Orleans. Good luck to everyone all over the world on this 24 Hour Comics Day.

Caesar Meadows – Three more pages!

April Gilmore joined us a few hours ago…  Welcome on board!

April and Kelly working away.

24 hours comic in winterthur/switzerland

Tonight, for the fifth time in a row, approximately sixty participants from all over switzerland gathered for the anual 24 hour comic event. A huge diversity of illustrators and techniques can be seen. You’ve got everything from hobby scribblers to professional illustrators. Artists who use watercolours and ink and those who use a wacom cintiq tablets. Right now the tenth hour has passed and after having dinner together the Artists continue so concentrated and commited you could hear a pin drop. The artists produce so many sketches it almost feels like a factory in here. No finished works have been delivered yet but we are still going strong!

24HCDVT down from 12 to 8 folks…Hour 13

Must be the witching hour… It’s getting quiet in here!

Our dear Jim Gorman finished his comic about an hour ago and fit a whole bunch of sci-fi movie hints into his text-gravaganza.  Thanks for joining us yet again, Jim!

Two others had to leave due to outside commitments, so we are down to eight participants still slowly plugging away.  Highest page count so far is 17, last I checked.

pages 7 & 14 from Jim’s comic
I’ve been blogging away here and on my own, so here’s a link to the few pages I’ve completed so far.  (12 is my goal.) sweetenemyart.blogspot.com

New Orleans Update…

Caesar Meadows – This is the first time I’ve attempted to draw a 24 page comic book in 24 hours even though I’ve known about the challenge for years. So far, it’s proving to be an enjoyable and quite reflective experience. I’m making up the story as I go along and so far it’s about two guys trying to draw a better comic book than the other. I highly recommend the challenge to other comic book artists/cartoonists out there.  If you’re interested, there’s more of my work at  www.mogihead.com.

Spencer Bradford – Enjoying my first time at 24 Hour Comics Day.  My comic is basically about two individuals with different points of views coming together to overcome an evil menace.
