Hour 1 from New Mexico

Hi Kids!

3 – 2 – 1! And they’re off! Everywhere there is furious scribbling as our 24 HCD officially kicks off.

Fortified by bagels, cream cheese, and coffee from Winnings Coffee Co. http://www.winningcoffeeco.com/ and housed at the Harwood Art Center http://harwoodartcenter.org/ss/ we who are http://www.baaadasssscomics.com/ are all set for another fabulous 24 Hour Comic Day.

I’m Chuck and I’ll be here with the play-by-play, or rather page-by-page color commentary–okay, I’ll be letting you know what’s going on as often as I can. I’m shooting for once an hour, but life somehow gets in the way and–well you know how it is…

We have 26 folks starting this afternoon and I’ll be sending pics and other tidings as we go along…

Good luck to all the New Mexico contestants!

Chuck and the 7000 B.C. Gang

Vermont is one-and-a-half hours in!

Took these pictures around 11:30 EST, and you could hear a pin drop in there.
Everyone is so quiet!

In the foreground is one of our veterans. And a few last minute sign-ups have filled out our group nicely…

Another veteran on the lower-left there, plus a mother-daughter team (mom draws, daughter is doing the script.)

After 20 hours…

After 20 hours there are still 12 enthusiastic drawers working in Rovaniemi library.
The day is bright and sunny and the athmosphere – as many times said – warm.
Library has opened the doors and many of the visitors have stopped to admire
drawings. Drawers seem to be even more concentrated on their work than 10 hours ago.

Right now there are about 10 ready 24-pages work.

Local newspaper just came to interwiew participants – great! And one person from
Kemi Comic Centre came to sell comics and pins. (Kemi is our neigbour about 100 kilometer from Rovaniemi city).

What more can I say – it’s awesome to be part of this happening : )

Good Morning!

9.30 am. It´s a bright and sunny morning in Rovaniemi, Northern Finland. Despite the fact that the sun is shining, the weather outside the library is still quite cold, something about minus 5 degrees (C). But, as it´s said also in the earlier blog post, the atmosphere here inside the library is warm and cozy.

Between 7 am. and 9 am. many of the drawers left home. Some of them finished their cartoon with 24 pages and it was really nice to see their faces shining along the rising sun – although drawing all night long must have been quite a hard job. I believe these young ones need a good sleep after 15 – 17 hours of drawing…

At the moment there are about fifteen drawers still working on their pieces of art. One of the girls just fell asleep, leaning her head on the drawing table. Every one else seem to be enthusiastic, and there is no signs of giving up!

Going strong after six hours in Rovaniemi library

First pizzas have been eaten and the mood is concentrated and enthusiastic. Nobody seems sleepy yet. Here at Arctic Circle it’s minus degrees outside but warm and comfortable in the library. Many drawers are in good speed and have already returned many pages. The stories are all different and the styles too. Some prefer mangastyle and others more tradional style of drawing. Some tell funny stories and others very dramatic ones. All in all many wonderful stories are coming to life! I can’t wait to see them ready.
