24 Hour Comics Day in New Mexico 2009 Wrapup

Created with flickrSLiDR.

24 Hour Comics Day 2009 at the Harwood Art Center had a great turnout this year! We may have had the largest attendance of any location in the world, with 41 people making the attempt (including 2 who worked from home and kept in contact with us throughout the night).

We had 11 people who made the trek from Santa Fe, Ms. Webber-Bey and a big group of her Comic Club students from Albuquerque, and Mike Hanlon who came all the way from Alamogordo! Thanks, Mike. Most folks stuck with us at least until morning. In the end, 16 24-page comics were completed by 18 creators (2 were made by 2 people collaborating).

Check out the coverage from the event:

Thanks to the Harwood Art Center for their generous support, and to all of our sponsors:

24HCD 2009 wrap up

Thank you to all of the hosts who have reported their participation numbers this year!

24HCD 2009 was a great event, taking place in over 100 venues around the world. Well over 2000 participants created comics, making tens of thousands of comic pages!

Congratulations to everyone who completed the challenge. Don’t forget: you can send your completed comics to the OSU Cartoon Library to be included in the official 24-Hour Comics Day collection. Include a cover letter for each comic and mail them to the address on the cover letter.

Thank you from the whole 24HCD committee and from ComicsPRO. See you all next year!

24 Hour Comics Day: Exhibit

We put up a display of all the pages (completed or not + some samples from last year’s event) from 2009 in the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Wood Center.

This is the student activity center for the university so there’s lots of traffic and exposure, and the display is up for the rest of October too. We also included contact information if anyone in the community is interested in participating in other upcoming gigs, like our monthly cartoon jams or workshops with visiting cartoonists.

Also here’s a couple shots from the actual event itself – really great turnout from all sorts of folks, both participants + onlookers alike. This was the third year we joined in the challenge, and fully half of the seventeen people who signed up were first-timers. Some more info is linked here and also some history here.

Six successfully accomplished the challenge, but a total of eleven people made it all the way through to noon the next day, which makes ’em all winners anyways. And many thanks go out to the support crews and our official host again, The Comic Shop!
